Description

The valleys and woods where Parmigiano Reggiano,  belongs to are also home to plenty other traditional products: they reminds us of a busy miller standing next to its grinding stones, of hoppers holding on their shouldrers heavy grains bags, of local women ( the zdoure) by the ovens, wisely handling their rolling pins.

This tour of the Appennines mountains is by far the most suitable to bring us back to the ancient times, when people worked the fields, when logs were chopped and piled by the fireplace.

The focus of the tour is Parmigiano Reggiano , whose morning preparation is still the main brand of our mountains and that we will have the chance to witness personally. But we won’t stop to cheese as on this tour, mountain flavours match with mountain landscapes: little medieval squares, old stone houses , millenial parish Church with sturdy watchtower, and the gem of the tour: a 16th Century water mill, with its heavy grinding stones, still working today.

Right next to the mill’s engine and its stones, it is the old bakery. We will be welcomed into it to taste what is fresh products right from the oven; here, everyday, the skilled hands of Maria, the Miller’s wife, stack up one by one the fragrant, freshly baked cookies and pepare the small paper bags of homemade traditional pasta.
